Pangkalan Bun is the capital city of West Kotawaringin which is located in the Central Kalimantan province, Indonesia. Pangkalan Bun, part of the Southern Arut District, is an area that includes Sub Mendawai, Raja, Mendawai Seberang, and Raja Seberang.

Formerly known as 'Pangkalanbuun', Pangkalan Bun and is a port (“base”) on the banks of the River Buun. The city became the seat of power for the Kotawaringin kingdom after the castle in Old Kotawaringin was abandoned in 1841. The castle in Pangkalan Bun is commonly known as the 'Yellow Palace'.

Due to modern development, Pangkalanbun has become a hub for a variety of companies.  There is also a thriving plantation subculture that supports many businesses around town.

Access to local area is possible through the Tans Borneo Highway, and Pangkalan Bun connected to Sampit, Ketapang, and Pontianak. The Kumai port serves as a major point-of-entry for Semarang and Surabaya. The Iskandar Airport provides a gateway that connects the city with Jakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, Solo, Ketapang, Sampit, Palangkaraya, Pontianak, Banjarmasin and Balikpapan. As of the year 2012, there are four airlines that serve these routes.
